At this year’s Newsmaker event last night, the Rhode Island Women’s Bar Association and Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly recognized the extraordinary leadership of Tara I. Allen, Federal Defender for Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts (post available here).
Her words struck a chord with the entire room.
She delivered a compelling reflection on courage: what it demands, what it costs, and why it matters. "Tara shared powerful insights on what it means to be brave—a theme that resonated deeply with everyone in the room. Her dedication to justice and to the communities she serves is truly inspiring."
Beyond her day-to-day leadership, Tara has long been an active and influential presence in the legal community, both locally and nationally. She has served as a keynote speaker and trainer at numerous programs, offering guidance and expertise on federal trial, sentencing law, policy, and practice. She serves as faculty for the Federal Criminal Justice Act Trial Skills Academy and the National Criminal Defense College Trial Practice Institute, helping to train and mentor trial lawyers.
Her unwavering commitment to justice, her fierce advocacy for her clients, and her deep care for the communities she serves continue to set a remarkable standard.
