Sentencing Commission Statistics Again Reveal Sentences Harsher for Black and Brown Men

According to data from the U.S. Sentencing Commission, Black men statistically received harsher prison sentences than white men who commit the same crimes, receiving sentences 20.4 percent longer than white males.

The Sentencing Project found Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons across the country at nearly five times the rate of whites, and Latinx people are 1.3 times as likely to be incarcerated than non-Latinx whites.
