A panel of state judges has taken the unusual step of stripping a former Suffolk County prosecutor of his law license for withholding key evidence in a 2013 home invasion murder case. The case ended with the accused pleading guilty to attempted burglary after the prosecutorial misconduct was revealed (article available here).

In a ruling Wednesday, an appellate court temporarily suspended attorney Glenn Kurtzrock, who resigned from the Suffolk district attorney’s office in 2017, from practicing law starting in February for two years, saying he "abdicated his duty as a public officer" with his actions in the case against Messiah Booker.

"He committed serious misconduct that undermines the public's trust in the justice system," the ruling from the State Supreme Court's Second Judicial Department Appellate Division said in part.

Booker, now 35, was released on parole in May 2019.
