Today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released its 2016 Crime Statistics. The data estimates the number of violent crimes in the United States increased 4.1% in 2016 compared to 2015 numbers, representing an increase for the second straight year. In the same period, property crimes decreased 1.3%, marking the fourteenth straight year such offenses have declined.
