The Supreme Court and other federal courts in Washington are closing their doors to in-person business until after the presidential inauguration due to security concerns prompted by the Capitol riot and continuing threats of violence.

The Supreme Court announced it will not accept in-person paper filings from January 15 through January 20. Filings due those days should be submitted via mail, the court said.

The Federal Circuit said its in-person filings would similarly be affected, but extended the deadline for nonelectronic filings due Jan. 13 to 20. Such filings “will be deemed as timely filed if received” on January 21.

The United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit said, "Due to the National Special Security Event surrounding the 59th Presidential Inauguration, the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse and William B. Bryant Annex will be closed to the public and court staff from Wednesday, January 13, 2021, through Thursday, January 21, 2021."
