Turn Key Health Clinics is a medical care provided utilized by local jails and detention facilities in counties across the country, including Tulsa, Cleveland, and Oklahoma. To date, at least 50 people in Turn Key’s care have died. Turn Key’s policies and practices have also endangered many others detailed in local jails. An investigation by The Marshall Project and The Frontier found that Turn Key failed to send detainees to the hospitals when in mental health crisis, staffed mental health and medical positions with “low-level nursing assistants,” and allowed doctors and “advanced-level nurses” to provide services by phone in lieu of in-person visits. Moreover, Turn Key was found to restrict medication available to detainees forcing them to change mental health medications abruptly or go without needed medication.
