North Dakota U.S. Marshal say a man on trial in Fargo, North Dakota, slashed his own throat in the courtroom Monday and died (article available here).

The incident happened after a jury left the courtroom after they returned a partial guilty verdict against the man, who had faced reckless endangerment and assault-related charges. He had been acquitted on one charge and found guilty on the other charge.

A witness, who asked not to be identified, was in the courtroom for another hearing that was on the court's schedule. After the man was found guilty, he asked to be released until sentencing, she said. When the judge said no, he then asked to be released for 24 hours to take care of a child care situation. The judge said no to that, too, the witness said.
