U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer joined judges, attorneys and former clerks from across the country Monday in recalling Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on what would have been her 88th birthday, with Justice Breyer eulogizing an icon who "made the world a better place."

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the architect of the legal fight for equality and women's rights in the 1970s who subsequently served 27 years on the nation's highest court, died Friday, September 18, 2020.

Among the state supreme court chief justices who offered tributes to Justice Ginsburg were Michigan Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack, Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush and Puerto Rico Chief Justice Maite D. Oronoz Rodríguez. "As we celebrate her life, we must reflect on her enduring legacy as a champion of human dignity, gender equality and women's rights. I believe we all have Justice Ginsburg to thank for breaking barriers and creating the circumstances that allow women like us to be here today," Justice Rodríguez said.

D.C. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby described Justice Ginsburg as her "shero" whom she has tried to model her work ethic and scholarship after.
