Cindy Chung, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, has been confirmed as a judge on the 3rd Circuit federal Court of Appeals. Article available here.

“Cindy Chung has made history today,” U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa. said. “She is the first Asian Pacific American judge to sit on the Third Circuit and, thanks in part to President Biden’s commitment to making our federal courts reflect the great diversity of our Nation, she is now one of five women who will actively serve on that bench.” 

Ms. Chung has been the U.S. attorney in Pittsburgh since 2021 after serving as an assistant in that office since 2014. Previous coverage available here.

She previously was a trial attorney in the criminal section of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. From 2003 to 2009, she served as an assistant district attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office. She received a degree from Columbia Law School in 2002 and her bachelor’s from Yale University in 1997.
