A federal inmate in West Virginia was placed for thirty days in the Special Housing Unit (isolation) after filing grievances against a correctional officer. After he was released from the SHU, the warden told him he was placed in the SHU because of the grievances he filed. The warden stripped him of his prison job and transferred him to a different housing unit. Fourth Circuit: While this may be retaliation for filing the grievances, there’s still no remedy under Bivens.

The case is Earle v. Shreves, 19-6655 (4th Cir. Mar. 10, 2021).
