World Suicide Prevention day and National Suicide Prevention Week draw attention to the problem of suicide in the United States and the world. The purpose is to raise awareness and connect individuals to the tools and resources that are available.

People experiencing a mental health crisis can dial 9-8-8 and be connected to the services and counselors at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (previous coverage available here).

Suicide often occurs in a moment of unbearable pain or deep despair. Many individuals with mental health needs are overcome with a sense of overwhelming hopelessness, and feel they have nowhere to turn.

If you or someone you know may be considering suicide, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 9-8-8, 1-800-273-8255 (En Español: 1-888-628-9454; Deaf and Hard of Hearing: 1-800-799-4889) or the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741.
