On June 24, 2024, The Bronx Defenders announced its appointment of Juval O. Scott as their next Executive Director. Scott is a trailblazer in indigent defense and her commitment is exemplified in every aspect of her work.

She is a nationally recognized leader in public defense, civil rights, and sentencing reform. Scott has served the federal defense community for two decades in roles that include Assistant Federal Defender, Attorney Advisor with the Defender Services Office Training Division, Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Virginia, and Director of the National Sentencing Resource Counsel.

Scott has taught criminal defense practitioners across the country as an adjunct professor, trainer, and lecturer. She serves as a resource to all, including attorneys, paralegals, investigators, social workers, mitigation specialists, and private practitioners. Scott is consistently sought after to guide the federal defense community as we advance our practice and Scott has worked fiercely to bring a more holistic approach to the federal system.

Scott remarked “‘It is truly an honor to join The Bronx Defenders, an organization that not only innovated the holistic defense approach which has become the standard for public defense nationally, but continues to redefine the profession through its deeply rooted and informed engagement with the Bronx community. . . . I look forward to bringing my experience working at the federal level and across the country to further strengthen and expand BxD’s holistic representation, policy advocacy, and impact litigation work.’”
